Metallurgical Process Monitoring

Modern metallurgical processes rely on controlled atmospheres to have protective or reactive effects on the metals being treated. Monitoring oxygen levels increases efficiency in the combustion control of a furnace and indicates the oxidizing potential of a controlled atmosphere. Excess of oxygen or moisture can result in reduced product quality or degradation of the product properties e.g. through oxidation. This means that the final product cannot be sold at the desired price or must be scrapped.

  • Many processes in the metals industry have to be carried out under an inert atmosphere to prevent oxidation
  • Heat treatment, annealing furnaces
  • Brazing furnaces e.g. components for the car industry
  • Metal powder production and processes
  • Solder paste manufacture
